[Jacketed and scarfed, Buffy is hard at work on the lawn of House Seven. She has in her hands a most fierce and gruesome weapon--long and pronged, wickedly effective for roping in and dealing with rogue...leaves. Yes, today Buffy is devoting her time to raking the leaves on the lawn (a task she takes even into the early but dark evening). And while ( Read more... )

[Buffy isn't the only one for whom things are clearly not okay, but as always, Emil is trying to mask it. So when he wanders past House 7 on yet another mindless circuit of the village, he'll try to put on a poker face before wandering over to see what she's doing.

... yeah, he kind of fails at poker faces.]

[That's okay, Emil. So does she.

Upon seeing him, she pauses in her ministrations.] H-hey!

H-hi Buffy... what are you doing?

[As if it weren't already obvious.]

Cleaning up the yard. It...it totally needs it.

[A small shrug.] How are you?

[Well you do live just across the pathway, it's not hard to miss.]

Doin' a bit of sweepin' there, hun?

Just a bit. [Looking up, she smiles brightly--just a little too brightly!--at Raven.] Gotta clear the leaves out.

Ah! A smile like that from you has swept me off my feet! [He couldn't resist.]

[Oh, that inspires a touch of genuineness.]

Do you just stay up at night, composing lines?

[Two Watertribe sibs in one day? What is this nonsense? At some point before the late afternoon, Katara passes by only to be greeted by a gust of wind, blowing the leaves in her direction.

She puts her hands out to shield herself, but doesn't seem to mind very much by the grin on her face. And she laughs a little as she bats them away.]

[Once more putting on an everything better than it really is brand of smile.]

Yikes--sorry about that.

That's OK! [Katara bends down to pick up some of the leaves gathered at her feet and walks over to dump them in Buffy's... sort of pile.]

Is that what you're supposed to do with them? Put them in piles?

Yep. And then once they're in the piles, I think...I think you get garbage packs and pack them all up. Except Luceti doesn't have a leaf-picking-up service. So I haven't really thought this through.

[His last attempt to get to House Seven ending in relative disaster, Giles is cautious on the approach. Fear of encountering the mostly-insane pirate, however, suddenly becomes the last thing on his mind at the sight of Buffy.

Okay, then.]

So you've actually learned how to use a rake?

Learning, Giles. And I don't think it's going very well.

[Diplomatically] You seem to be making progress.

Yeah, now. But just wait until the next gust of wind. Then it'll be scattered leaf city.

[pops forth from the bottom of the screen like a little intrusive mouse with pigtails]

Oh no! You broke your rake?? That's really sad, 'cause you can't clean up leaves now, and it'll look messy...

[Oh, Hello.]

Pretty much exactly. I don't even know if I'll finish it before dark.

['Sup.]

Waaaah, that's horrible!! Don't stay out after dark, though, cause it's scary and you can't see good!

It's only as scary as you let it be, uhm...? [She doesn't know the kid's name, and so falters.]
