[ it is about time to try and smile on through the difficulties. there is a christmas day to be celebrated and gifts to be opened and given. so buffy puts on her bravest of brave social faces and is out making her christmas gift rounds.

at home, there will be gifts under the beautifully decorated tree for bones, willow, emony and scottyaround

[And Scotty has left a gift for Buffy under the tree as well: it's an ornately-carved German cuckoo clock. Because clearly House 7 needs one of these. At least their craziness will always be on time.

The man himself is enjoying a glass of something in the living room, admiring the tree.]

[ wrapped and tucked beneath the tree is an assortment of mixed nuts, boxed chocolates, and tester-size liquor bottles. basically every cliche what should i get you gift known to man in one gift box. ]

It's pretty amazing, isn't it? I wish I could remember putting it up. [ she walks into the room with a smile. ]

[And the Chief Engineer grins up at her.] Live trees! [He raises his eggnog.] It's been a long time.

Just how long is a long time?

[ she's been told about how he was stranded on the ice planet -- but her nosy tendencies do not end there. ]

[Xander is actually on his way to House 7 to deliver gifts for Willow and Buffy: sculpting clay for the witch, and an origami kit for the slayer. It's arts and crafts time in 2011, apparently.]

[ and buffy is in the living room at house seven -- putting the finishing touches on xander's gift. ]

HELLO? [He's leaning in the door, now. Calling out.] Special delivery for the two most gorgeous ladies in Luceti?

[ buffy is up on her feet the moment she hears the voice -- slayer instincts and friend reflexes all a-go. the tag is left unaddressed on xander's package so she leaves it on the table for the moment. ]

Gee, Xander. I'm sure Will'll appreciate the compliment but you'd better be careful what you say about Emony when Bones might be around. He's hella protective. [ she delivers her deflection of the friendly compliment with a smile. ]

[Sparrow is highly surprised to find a gift outside his door. He picks the binoculars up and examines them appreciatively. A couple of hours later they are tucked into the pocket of his coat as he heads out into the village, where he will also pick up his gift from Bil: a new jolly roger flag for his still unnamed boat. Jack won't stray far from the village today, though.]

[ and because i am a cruel, cruel typistbuffy is conspicuously walking through the village centre today with her arms filled with packages. it's a shame that those fashionable heeled boots have no traction -- she hits an icy patch and it all goes to hell in a hand-basket. ]

[It has been a long time since Jack has seen the slayer, and this is a rather surprising Buffy-sighting. If she'd been any other woman, he would have sauntered over and played "help you up from the icy ground" hero. Probably would've carried her packages for her, too.

Since it's Buffy, it seems like as good an opportunity as any to sneer. But just a little. She might look up to see the pirate staring down at her with something triangulated between disdain, concern, and anxiety on his face.]

It's icy just there.

[Emil is out as well despite the snowy weather, toting around a basket full of bags of cookies that he's handing out to his friends.

... that basket probably weighs about half as much as he does, though, so he has to put it down and rest every ten feet or so.]

Emil! [ she smiles and waves, flipping quickly through a pile of bright green envelopes as she approaches him. ] Merry Christmas!

[Dragging that basket over to her now.]

[ she holds out an envelope with his name on it -- inside will be one of those singing cards that will play jingle bells when opened. also, there is a written message: merry christmas, emil! oh! and happy new years. do remember to come over anytime for pancakes or hot chocolate or whatever. love -- buffy summers ]

[ McCoy hasn't shoved his presents under the tree yet; who knows whether it's a display of poor time management skills or something else, but he is hanging near the Christmas tree and decorating it with a stethoscope that has been rendered useless since he got his tricorder back this year. ]

[ beneath the tree there is an old time country doctor bag with a ribbon attached and a little tag stating that it is a very merry christmas care package, love buffy. inside there will be a copy of gone with the wind -- go go novels set in georgia -- as well as a tall bottle of fine bourbon taken from Good Spirits' back room.

buffy is gently setting a pair of well-folded papers down on the table in front of her. she has been seen reading them a lot, recently. but she smiles when she looks up to see bones decorating the tree. ] Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas. [ McCoy returns the greeting gruffly as the stethoscope slips down between the needles and threatens to hit the floor, but he reaches out to grab it. To rectify this -- and any more close calls -- he ties the instrument around the top of the tree with a good knot before stepping back and admiring his work. ]

Stay where you are -- I'll be right back. [ He jerks a finger in her direction before disappearing to his room. ]

[ and so stay she does. buffy settles her chin on the palm of her hand while she waits. ]
