I've been trying to get treatment for my sleep deprivation/ oxygen deprivation for my entire adult life. A mere week of insomnia can make a person become paranoid, aggressive, depressed, hallucinate, drop their IQ, lose their immunity to bugs, lose their sex drive and ability to digest, yet mysteriously the doctors never took this seriously ( Read more... )

The irony of modern medicine is that most stuff *is* fixable, but only if somebody can work out what *it* is.

You still have a huge whack of life left to play out, and a brief glance through your literary output suggests that the last few years have not been entirely non-productive. I'm sure you swap your dark muse for your health, but since that's not possible, be grateful you have the muse.

Most of us look back on the years since uni and see a proportion of the time as wasted. E.g. the 6 years I spent at [Bastard Engineering Company] were 90% wasted. I just got older and more pissed off. Worse, they spilled into my outside work life. Do the maths, that's perhaps 60% of my waking life pissed away during those years.
