Premature Ejection, Vol. 2

Nov 29, 2005 15:02

Volume 2 isn't nearly as "edgy" as I'd remembered it, consisting as it does primarily of NME's heroes of the neo-post-punk movement. My biggest regret is including the overplayed (and from the wrong year) "Galang" instead of something by Okkervil River or Four Tet.

19. The National, "Lit Up"

If only that were a Buckcherry cover.

Oh, and I've been meaning to bring this up. On the new Go-Betweens album, you know that song "Finding You"? There's a section (before the chorus, I think) that totally sounds like "Sweet Caroline." It's SO distracting!

I like my alt-metal covers brooding like that.

Man, I never noticed that, but now that's all I'll be able to hear. AAAAAAH! Actually, I have a soft spot for Neil Diamond, who is my dad's second favorite artist of all time (and this includes all media) behind Elvis.

It always makes me feel cooler when I have some of your "Best Of" songs (I think I had seven this time). I've been out of the music scene for this semester, pretty much, so this will give me some new stuff to check out if I survive finals.

Also, I tried to call you before the Ted Leo show, but I don't have your new number. So instead a UNC undergrad flirted with me. See what you've reduced me to? ;)

Seven's not bad at all, although I question any system of judgment that uses me as a signifier of coolness. :)

I finally got my non-work California number, so I'll have to do a super-sekrit post letting everyone know what it is. But hey, getting macked on by a Tarheel is loads better than chatting me up.

Good luck with finals!

I'm a little embarrassed about submitting such a Brit-heavy mix for your listening pleasure (seriously, you must be sick as hell of "I Predict a Riot"), especially knowing your feelings on FF.

Hopefully you'll like the Mice Parade and Minus the Bear songs enough to compensate!

And this one was exactly 80 minutes (for some reason, my burning program still things this is too long, so I had to cut "California" which I already have elsewhere. I haven't listened to this one but I look forward to listening to it.

It might be because I have the blank space between songs set at "0 seconds", but I was able to burn both of them using iTunes. Gotta pack with as much goodness as possible, y'know. :)

Great choices! Even without the Okkervil River! Although I'm not sure who Mice Parade is, since they seem to be missing a wolf from their name..I kid. Somewhat.
I can't wait to formulate my own lists!

And I can't wait to see your list!

I really need to familiarize myself with Wolf Parade, especially after the near-uniform glorious reviews. Mice Parade is one of those really-just-one-guy-bands that plays post-rock semi-electonic music. Good stuff, but definitely an acquired taste.
