I kinda agreed with you about the writer's colony stuff when I was first reading the book, but there is a point to it which is revealed towards the end, and I actually came to like it, although not as much as the stories themselves.
But yeah, Chuck P. rocks my socks.

And I thought to myself, man, that's five sentences that just put a boot up my ass.
And then he got to the part about the soundtrack to "Beaches" making the most people want to hit someone.
He's not for everyone, to be sure. But he is for me. Bravo for your sublime taste. And if you say the ending pulls it all together, I will trust that and get back to you.
