Oops! Just noticed that it's 2010, not 2012. Although the law is still in effect, and no legislation or court cases have reversed it yet. :(

How horrible! It sounds very painful to boot. :(
ETA:"It was an awful thing we had to do," she said. "This should not have been news. It should have been between just my doctor, my husband and myself, privately, in his office."

The Deavers have not taken a public stand on abortion, they said, and don't consider that to be the issue.
This is a big chicken shit answer. It has everything to do with abortion and what a women can decide what is best for her.
