Salazar Slytherin left a Basilisk and only parseltongues could find the chamber... Do you think he did this because he wanted the muggle borns to be killed due to easy entry into the school instead of the elite purebloods he was urging for... or do you feel he created this to spite Gryffindor Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw in hope they would pay for not ( Read more... )

Frankly, I think (and could be completely wrong here, but nevermind that for the moment) that the REAL reason that Salazar was against the admission of Muggleborns for magical training was simply for reasons of security ( ... )

what of all the havoc on e of the muggle born children could have released into the world, not knowing what they were doing? a tantrem, a fight, a mear whim, oculd turn into a deadly situation. and isnt there a whole department in the ministry to keep things like that from happening? i think salazar was just a jerk with, as i beleive someone put rather nicely here, a hitler complex.

I agree with sungmanitu's philosophy. I think there was no code that witches and wizards lived by in the beginning. Perhaps he wanted to kill muggles to scare them out of wanting to be witches and wizards for personal gain? a sacrifice if you will.

There are absolutely tons of possibilities on why he did what he did. I think Slytherin left the basilisk behind to for both protection and revenge. Sungmanitu pretty much explained the security thing and I agree with that philosophy. I also think he most likely enjoyed having one up on the rest of the founders when he left it. But, I think that was most likely a small bit of it and it was more about security. He put a lot of himself into the castle, so of course he'd like to protect it.

hmm. could it be a some sort of joke ? nathoo March 7 2006, 22:22:40 UTC
i'm sure that ancient wizards have had a very different thoughts about human (especially muggle) life cost than we do now.
and salazar slytherin was undoubtedly a very peculiar person even amongst them. i think he must have had a very special sense of humour.
