Theodore and I went out for an invigorating walk the other night, during which I learned all sorts of interesting things. Such as the fact that Gryffindors are apparently incapable of keeping their gargantuan mouths shut. So much for discretion, eh Granger? It appears that as far as House gossips go, you put Brown and Patil II to shame, which, ( Read more... )

Oh, honestly, I only told my best friends. It is hardly my fault that one of them let it slip. I'm not any happier about it than you are!

And I told no-one at all, because that is my definition of discretion. Perhaps we should have clarified that.

If you trusted them well enough to know that you were going to tell them, you should have trusted their discretion as you do yours. So really then, it is rather your fault that one of them let it slip. Either you knew he'd be likely to say something and you told him anyway, or you thought he would be as discreet as you are and your trust was misplaced.

I don't have to keep things from my best friends.

I do trust them. They, however, are only human, as are both you and I. Accidents happen; it was, of course, highly unfortunate that the accident happened to be this one, but it can't be changed now. People make mistakes. Obviously, it's not as if I wanted this to happen, or that I wouldn't change it if I could, but I don't have the option.
