I'm cooking spanish food at the moment. Working with salt cod for the first time. Soaked it over night and I'm about to poach it in milk with spring onions. I'm making these little potato fish cakes that get fried up in olive oil and served with Aioli sauce. I hope they are worth the time put into making them! I think it was because it was actually someone's job to harvest and prepare and such... and they didn't do a ton of anything else. Also, no media distractions. I'm always amazed at how much time this little machine eats up. Sometimes I wish I could just spend a year with no electronics, save "necessities" like irons and sewing machines and microwaves, and at least one thing that could play music (although, we've got three wind-up victrolas, so I guess that counts).
