I watched the Dog Show last night. I want an American Eskimo dog so bad. It's is the cutest thing? As soon as we get to move and we have a yard that is the one I want. They probably cost a fortune though. And when my husband says he wants a dog I'm sure this isn't the one he's thinking about. I don't know what it is but I love a solid white ( Read more... )

I always thought those were Samoyeds. I can see the difference now that i'm looking at them side by side though.

Yea very similar the Samoyeds are just bigger. I don't think I could handle one that big though. They can get up to 70 lbs.

what size do you want? I've trained a lot of Eski's, just be prepared for LOTS of barking, and LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of shedding! Hair everywhere!!!! For the most part they are good dogs, just need lots of socialization or they get aggressive.

If there's a particular breed you want--in this case the American Eskimo Dog--when you're ready go on www.petfinder.com. You can enter your location, the kind of dog you want, even specifiy male or female, and petfinder will pull up rescues and shelters that are near you. This is a fantastic way of rescuing, even saving the life of, a dog that needs a home, and at the same time you can find a specific breed. Adoption fees are a great deal lower than the purchase price of a dog from a breeder and please, never, ever, buy a puppy in a pet store.

Also, be sure to do your research to know if the breed is the right one for you. You can start on the AKC website and check out their information on the breed, and then you check for dog shows in your area. A benched dog show. like Westminster, allows you to walk among the dogs and talk to the owners/breeders/handlers to find out what characteristics of the breed are. They live and work with these dogs and know them better than a lot of people, and they love to talk about their dogs.

Good
