We're doing the Hawaiian thing this year for Amy's birthday party. She's turning six this month.
It's in less than three weeks, and I need good ideas for what kind of food, games, decorations, etc. I know you guys are creative, (ahem RACHEL) so give me some good ideas.

Ooh!

Hula hoop contests?

Hawaiian punch? Pineapple kabobs?

Get the kids to make their own leis?

hula hooping would be hilarious. :)
i will probably do the lei thing. i think even boys would like that.
hawaiian punch is for sure, too. pineapple is my favorite fruit, so we'll have some, but i don't know if the kids like it or not. i will probably have to do some watermelon and grapes and stuff for them. i bet they would love kabobs.

thanks a lot for the ideas.

got ideas falling out of my head... trly_g0n_fishng July 11 2007, 20:26:56 UTC
Hmm..I did coconut cup favors for Elora's first birthday....That would still be cute for this theme...a potato sack race, or limbo contest? Those 6 year olds can be flexible! Plus, if you have a broom handle and a boom box...you've got limbo! another favor idea would be to put some goodies in a sand pail...or even the little prizes for the games. I know Dollar Tree had a neat assortment of Luau type stuff last year, for decorations, cups, plates and invitations...it may be worth a look. I'd go fruit tray, punch, and maybe those flavor icees things...instead of popsicles...cause they're less messy.....and as far as cake, if it's going to be one of those parties where the kids are running around a lot and full of energy, a small cake for the birthday girl and cupcakes may be a better way to go. That way you don't have girls squabbling over who got a bigger piece, and all that stuff. Is the party indoors, outside, or both?

hopefully, it will be in the back yard. that's as long as there is no rain.
limbo would be awesome. i think i'm going to do that.
thanks for the tip on dollar tree. i really hate spending a lot of money on stuff that's only going to be used once, so i'll definitely go there. did you get the coconut cups there?
thanks so much for your ideas. i knew you could give me some.

or little flower hair clips. they sell cheap clips at walmart, and you could hotglue cheap silk flowers on them as favors....sunglasses for boys....
you could give the kids all hawaiian names on little nametags (http://www.alohafriendsluau.com/names.html)...you can make fake flame tikis out of wrapping paper rolls and tissue paper, for other drinks you could do capri suns, they're kinda tropical looking...and I even saw a thing online for kid friendly poi, grey tinted applesauce..hehe. White chocolate macadamia nut cookies may be good too....
