It is a requirement of this school that we witness 10 births and assist at 3 before we begin to take deliveries. And even then the first 10 or so deliveries we take are hand-over-hand with one of the tutors. Because of the incredible volume of women at GMH I had completed this requirement by noon on my second day in the labour room. However because ( Read more... )

This weekend I assisted at some 20 minor surgeries. Yes, you read that correctly and no I am not a doctor or a nurse. But I am excellent at putting on sterile gloves, pouring betadine, holding speculums in place, holding and opening sample cups and last but certainly not least - fetching supplies for the doctor. am writing to you to announce that today I witnessed the births of 7 babies - and watched an 8th from across the room.

The important details to me are:

2 were breach delivery's -both babies delivered alive and ok
1 was a forceps delivery -also alive and ok
the other five were normal vaginal deliveries.

4 girls 4 boys

The world is a brighter
