I suppose it's rather silly, really, putting such a great significance on nothing more important than another day. Even if it is your birthday. However, it isn't every day that you turn eighteen (or the novelty would have worn off ages ago), and so I'm determined to enjoy it for what it's worth. Even if 'enjoy it' actually means 'sleep for more ( Read more... )

My, Zacharias. Is Resolution 3 dedicated to anyone in particular?

Yeah. If he doesn't know what I'm on about, though, then he doesn't deserve the second chance.

Oh dear. I suppose I should warn him of this now.

I guess. I'd not really thought about it. It's really up to him whether he's interested in doing it or not. I'm sick of chasing after him about it, when he can't be bothered to return the favour. So he has to meet me halfway or not at all.

Happy birthday, mate! And what's this about you having no friends? Has someone been spreading malicious rumours at my expense?

My robot is much better than your spaceship. It has laser eyes and everything. Well, it will, just as soon as I can find the right charm. Then your spaceship will have no hope, and we can clear up our non-existent insect problem. Really, the lego is brilliant. Now we can have fun filled hours of building lego things, so long as Ankaa and Lucky don't eat any of the pieces.

My hair really doesn't need to be any more curly. I don't think that it's even possible. I would strongly suggest removing that from your list of resolutions.

Oh, Potter reckons that I bribe the lot of you with...something. I'm not entirely sure what, and he's not deigned to tell me. I think that's quite rude, really, as how am I supposed to know what to do about it? Then again, I'm not exactly chasing after him for that information, am I? He's a little bit unstable, I guess.

So, apparently, you don't exist. Which means that my spaceship is so much better than your robot. However, on a serious note...why do I have to be serious? It's lego!

But I don't want to! I'm determined to share the cheer, be an idiot, justify everyone not talking to me. It'd be fun! Or failing that, I could just make your hair dead straight and watch you die of shock. Either or.

I'll take this moment to assure Harry that I haven't received any sort of bribe. And frankly, I wouldn't take it anyway. What sort of friend needs to be bribed?

I resent the implication that I'm an insect. I'm a table, remember? If the insects are not removed, they'll get into the furniture and I, as a table, wish to prevent this by giving my already very impressive robot some laser eyes. I can give your space ship some laser stuff too, if you want - it is your birthday, after all.

Well, when you put it that way... no! I don't think it's possible for my hair to be straight either. But don't let that stop you from trying!

Slytherin ones! Sorry, that just had to be said. It was horrible, I know. But still, true. And he's not Harry, he's Potter, which is short for "that degenerate bastard who I wish weren't here". Why do you and Susan call him that for, anyway? It's not as if he's done anything recently to deserve being called by his first name.

Nah, it's cool. I think Susan wants us to share it, but I'm not a fan of that. Seems rather silly really. And what was the deal with all the picture books? Well, other than Susan, who gave me a book which is rather...interesting. I don't know if she's aware of what it's actually about, and if I'm right...well.

I can try if I like! And I shall.

Happy birthday, Zacharias. I'm sorry I couldn't think of anything better, but at least this way you won't end up with anything you don't like. I'd been contemplating Legos, the way you and Justin had been carrying on recently, but decided against it.

Thank you, Zacharias, it means quite a bit to me.

Oh, but I will, for I have a girlfriend with Ideas of how things should go and, more importantly, a sense of what books I actually need rather than what books I simply desire. Thus, I suspect that there won't be anything in regards to cursebreaking, Defence or Ancient Runes and instead stuff on other things. However, I suppose that it's necessary, even if I don't like it and really don't see the point to it. And it means I get to pull her hair and laugh at her, thus all is well.

I got sick of the tension in the dormitory. Ankaa was sulking and miserable, and really, how can you let a kitten down?

Oh. Well, at least it will be useful, then.

That would be a crime against nature, methinks.

Well, yes. Pulling her hair is useful. Otherwise she looks too much like her cousin, and that's just really, really creepy.

Not to mention, cruel.

I like your list. That is a good idea of a way to organize things.

I'm fairly confident that numbered lists have existed since before the beginning of time. In fact, I have this image of God with one.

Well, I meant about organizing your feelings into sentences, not so much putting it into a list...

Happy Birthday.

Number four on your list doesn't always ring true. I think its more about trying to figure out who can handle it and who cannot. Some people might be upset if you don't give them the whole truth.

smith_badger January 16 2005, 20:49:30 UTC
I don't get that. The truth is, and you have to accept it, whether you want to or not. If you run from it, it'll only get worse.

starryeyedmandy January 16 2005, 21:38:34 UTC
That depends on what you are telling someone. Some things are rooted in opinion, which just makes it your own personal truth.

I do agree that factual truth should always be told. For someone not to believe in something factual, especially if it will cause problems, just does not make any sense. I'd rather hear the complete truth then to be lied to.

smith_badger January 16 2005, 22:10:36 UTC
But that's just an opinion. The truth is objective, that's what makes it true. It's the reason why people don't like it much, because it's unbiased and can't be dismissed. The truth hurts, because it cuts through ego and what you believe to what is, and not many people like that. So they lie to themselves and lie to others, even by omission.

There's no point in quantifying truth. It just is.
