Etsy shops and Etsy shopping

Does anyone in the hive mind have a Esty shop or bought anything from an Etsy shop? I am thinking of starting one for a friend and wanted to see if anyone had any experience with them.

If you haven't, esty.com is a cool place to buy and sell homemade and vintage things. I love to look, but haven't bought yet.

I've done the etsy thing. It takes a lot of consistant marketing on the part of the artist.

You might check out Artfire.com too.

I don't have direct experience, but I know several people who have done quite well with them. It seems in general a much more real, artist-oriented venue than ebay, which has its uses but also has a lot of gimmickry and hoakiness.

I buy stuff from them all the time...its a good source for sexy fun notions and pretty hand painted yarn as well as knitting patterns, etc. I've always had terrific customer service.

Gwen/Jenny/Tometkin has an Etsy shop, and I think Maddy might too?
