So, I'm waiting for forearm and bicep measurements from Ulfgar, so I can't really do any work on his shirt for a bit. While I'm waiting, I thought I would talk about another project I want to do, which is to make a pair of poofy pants for Olin for 12th Night.

Haven't made much progress on Ulfgar's tunic the past couple of days as I took time off to clean and purge my sewing room. It was a huge disaster area and so overwhelming that I have been avoiding that room for months. Having so much sewing to do between now and Estrella, I could no longer afford to ignore it. A while back, I talked a little bit about how I was trying a different method to thread my loom called, appropriately enough, tying on. Since I'm going to be weaving the same broken diamond twill pattern as the blue wool in my avatar, tying on offers one way of getting a warp unto a loom that is supposed to reduce errors and somehow take less time ( Read more... )

On my last post, a couple of people were interested in learning how I manage even selvedges when I band weave, so I promised them pics and here they are.

This trick is leaving a loop of weft thread and not pulling the weft tight until you've beat the next shed.  This trick was passed on to me by hunnic_scourge  years ago. I think it originated with petitsyrah .
