So I just finished my last final (8-10am on a Saturday). I've never been less excited to be done with exams. I don't know why. Maybe because now that I don't have those to worry about, I have to focus on things like saying good-bye to people. It's a lot harder than I thought it would be. Elections started today in Beirut. It's fairly quiet. Everything closed down last night in preparation. For the last couple weeks, the streets have been covered in pictures of people running for parlaiment and giant billboards with pictures of Hariri that say "maa-ak" (with you ( Read more... )

We left Beirut at 7am and got to Damascus in no time. The taxi driver bribed the Syrian border guards with a few cartons of Marlboro lights. I love Damascus! It's so real. It's so full of life. There's a sense of something here that I couldn't figure out- probably because they aren't trying to hide whatever it is like they do in Lebanon and Jordan ( Read more... )
