We are back from a lovely holiday in Dinan, Brittany. Which is a
mediaeval walled town on a hill. We went there with Ravenlas and
Ellenscult, Dave and Sue and their daughter who are all re-enactors of
one stripe or another.

When we got back home Clotilde made a worrying discovery in the
bathroom. There were about half a dozen 14 dead wasps on the floor ( Read more... )

There were 14 dead wasps when we got back. I counted them.

I did not realise that there were quite that many. I think that if I had I would have been more worried about them.

We had repeated episodes of wasps nesting under the floorboards at our last house - they got in through the airbricks. I bought a spray foam that you cover the entry point with, and as each wasp goes into the hole, it gets coated with it. Eventually enough of the chemical is transferred into the nest that they all start to die off.

You might have to call someone out to sort it if you can't get to where they're getting in and out, or the nest itself.

At least you've not got the kind of bee issue we had: http://rich-r.livejournal.com/88557.html

That sounds like a good idea-if I can find and reach the entrance. Cheers.

I just had a look outside (while Kit is entranced by Igglepiggle)and the entrance appears to be just above the bathroom window. I think we'll need to get someone in to do it.I'll check out the council and give the call today or tomorrow.

£60 for wasp removal. The council website says that wasps are useful insects, so should only be remove themif they are nesting in an inconvenient place (they are)and that their nests only last for a year.

Just opening the hatch and poking your head through should tell you whether they are in your loft as they can be noisy buggers. Also, if you think they may be over the bathroom ceiling, stroke the ceiling with the back of your hand - you may find a warm patch.

Good luck - wasps are horrid.

I find filling the bath with water softens the impact...

But yes, I agree - unless the nest or entrance point is obvious, I'd get someone else to sort it out.

The council provide a service for this kind of thing. Given how agressive wasps are, I'd call them out rather than trying to tackle the problem yourself.
