God, I just came across the video to Sherrif Fatman by Carter USM on YouTube. The early 90s just fucking sucked, when I consider that I went through a phase of really liking them, when I knew even at the time that they were fucking evil. It was that, Suede, or fuck all. Although I hearted Suede to the max. I've said it before and I'll say it ( Read more... )

OMG RONG!
that's like my favourite era of music. but then i loved all that shoegaze stuff.

my fave bands from around that time were: ride, my bloody valentine, slowdive, THE HOUSE OF LOVE, the telescopes, morrissey (obviously), spacemen 3, teenage fanclub... there were loads actually.
before all that, i'd only been into american indie stuff (dinosaur jr., sonic youth, pixies, etc.), a lot of which was old by the time i got to hear it (late 80's stuff), so it was cool to be into more current and british (with the exception of MBV) stuff.

carter USM were total shit though. as were neds atomic dustbin and jesus jones and EMF and horse shite like that.

Haha! I wondered if you would move in in defence of Shoegazing. Yes, the House of Love were certainly awesome, and yeah Ride and Slowdive too. I never really dug the Pixies beyond a few tracks.

I dunno. I think my disdain for that time comes from the fact that I love pop, so obviously from like 93/94 onwards I was well chuffed. I do rate 93-97 as a golden age of British music. It's fashionable to knock it now, but you have some mental stuff going on there.
