Spooooky...

I'm usually a-okay with spiders and centipedes in the house, being that they eat plenty of other things I'd rather not find in my cupboards. Unfortunately this guy took me by surprise. And now he's flat.
Here's a photo of one of his brethren: ( click here for GIANT SPIDER )

Yikes, how big was it really? It's actually fairly pretty for a spider...but then again, I didn't have to see it in real life.

Not super big. Larger than your average house-spider, but smaller than a daddy long-legs. After I freaked out and squished it, I was a little sorry I hadn't watched it some more. It was really interesting looking.

Fast moving, brightly-colored, unidentified spider headed directly for bare toes...

Slightly smaller, actually, but also taller than you'd expect!

im usually like you in that i leave spiders alone (my cats dont though)...but a friend of my girlfriend's mom got bitten by a brown recluse and has been in medical hell for like 2-3 months because of it.

Dude, that sucks. I hope she's gotten through the worst of it.

As best as I could guess, it was dysdera crocata.

That's what I said! It looked waaaay too exotic for this neck of the woods... er... city. Then I looked it up and realized it's actually not that fancy -- and harmless to humans. Apparently they prefer to eat sow bugs. That being the case, I don't know why it ended up in my apartment. Maybe it was hanging out in the garage downstairs and took a wrong turn?
Anyway, the ocean has sea lice and all kinds of other weird beasties.

My God! The ultra-rare Red Widow! Most endangered of all arachnids... gone... the humanity... the humanity...

Consider this "darwinism in action".
