Sadly, (per wikipedia) the Palmer Method was not developed until 1888 and Dickens died in 1870. If only he were subjected to the script alphabet of our childhood.

Might be. :) Unless you also had abusive teachers? I expect that's not as tolerated in the public school system, but I could be completely wrong.
