Aww, welcome back! We missed you and your fabulousness. I'm excited that you came back on my birthday, too. :3
Twilight is fabulous and I agree with your comment about the movie.
New classics? Um... have you read Wicked and all the rest of Gregory Maguire's work? He's pretty excellent. If you like historical fiction, I'd also check out Philippa Gregory, who wrote "The Other Boleyn Girl" and does a lot of fiction from that era. My favorite of hers is probably "The Constant Princess" about Catherine of Aragon.
"I'm Not Dead" is a fabulous album, btw. I concur.
Aww, happy birthday! A bit late now but you know what they say - better late than never! :)
It's funny to see all the comments here - people either love or hate Twilight, and not much in between. I guess the same could be said for HP though.
Thanks for the book recs - I liked the Boleyn movie but couldn't read the book - not a fan of the way Phillipa Gregory writes, but I'll check out your other rec!
So sorry to hear about your Mum. It has been a difficult year for so many people, but it feels that the year is ending on the hopeful note... Original writing and the Masters sound fabulous! I am looking forward to somehow learning more about it.
I remember fondly our meeting in Glenelg and how you drove me to Mount Lofty in September 2006. I am back in Adelaide now, have been for a month, and am leaving next Tuesday - back to Russia. ((That is, if you'd like to catch up, I'd be happy to; if it is sort of a weird idea, I am sorry)).
daria! I had no idea you were back in Adelaide! Wish I'd known sooner but I don't have the Internet at my new place yet. Send me some snow from Russia and will definitely catch up when you're back here again! :)
Hey Fer! I've missed all you guys too... I wish I had time to hang around on the net like I did during my uni days. Ah, that was the life. Maybe if one of my books gets published and becomes a bestseller I'll be able to afford not to work and get back into it. Haha. Like that's going to happen.
I'm trying to get a few short stories I wrote up on my website (which I recreated for a uni project this semester - lol) but just haven't had a chance with moving etc... and I don't have internet set up at the new place yet either, which is driving me nuts!! Thank goodness LJ isn't blocked from work like Facebook is!
Got a few recs from other people commenting here - one in particular that has been seconded, thirded and I think fourthed as a rec. lol. So I might check that one out over Christmas.
Er...I hate Twilight with a fiery passion so I'll pass out on commenting there. 49 weeks?
Almost a year? Well, I did a list of SSHG DH Year One Guides if you're in a nostalgic mood for your OTP. In that first year I think my favorite was rhianonofthemoon's For All Intents and Purposes. There's a sshg_awards going on, and the popular favorites were nominated and can be found here. Outside that first year, Somigliana just completed a DH SSHG novel, The Silvering Divide which is made of awesome.
Is it bad that I hope you'll love some of these, be inspired and come back to us now and then?
Yep, 49 weeks... I remember when I used to post here every day - sometimes more than once! Ah well, I guess life moves on.
But thanks for all the recs. I'll start with The Silvering Divide, I think, since it's been rec'd by quite a few people here.
You never know - I might just get inspired and post something on New Years Day again like I did this year! I could make a habit of it - one fic a year. I have been writing a bit of the next chapter/story of the one I did post last New Years actually, so we'll see what happens. :)
Heh. I could wish for more--but even that will be something to look forward to :-)
And you know, once New Years begins the sshg_exchange starts posting, and I know of at least two awesome novels out there that will post, one from Bambu, one from a friend who allowed me a peak.
I'm so pleased you're not dead! I was just telling someone yesterday that I missed you.
I'm very sorry about your Mum. I can't imagine how difficult that must have been.
Harmony beat me to recommending "The Silvering Divide," which is amazing. Camillo1978 did a bit of fanart for it, which you can look at, but the fanart is a major spoiler, so I'm not going to provide a direct link. Go to her journal and then DeviantArt from there if you don't mind being spoiled. From the SSHG Awards list she gave, I highly recommend "Second Life," "Through Silence," "The French Connection," "Boomerang" ... oh, hell, almost anything on that list will do! And anything by those authors

Hi Keladry! Thanks for the extra recs. As I said to Harmony, I'll def read The Silvering Divide first, but will keep the others in mind for a rainy day. :)
Portus would have been amazing - I'm so jealous! And all the amazing people you met, too! I'm planning a big O/S trip in 2010 so hopefully there will be a convention somewhere in the world that year and I'll be able to make it.
Not familiar with Jeeves, but I'll have to go back and check out what you've posted in HP during the last year or so. I feel so out of touch with everything in the fandom!
Not sure I dare get involved in the Twilight fandom... I may never return to the real world. lol.

I'd love to read anything original you write, so please, let me know when and where to find it.
If you're looking for new classics in HP fanfic, I'd love to make you a list. :0)

I can see that The Silvering Divide is the rec. It's a great fic, indeed! So great that I'm translating it. LOL.
Happy Christmas!
