Who are the Drarry Veterans?

Jun 06, 2015 17:38

Because I'm curious about these things, I wondered which authors had been writing Drarry for the longest time. There have been literally thousands of Drarry fanfic authors over the years (not kidding: I've got over a thousand names in my database alone). So in order to find an answer to this question I decided to limit my results by these ( Read more... )

author:sassy_cissa, drarry, author:lomonaaeren, author:oldenuf2nb, author:samael, author:zeitgeistic, author:megyal, meta, author:ravenna_c_tan, author:taradiane, author:pir8fancier, author:lordhellebore, author:charmed310, author:enchanted_jae, author:twistedm, author:create_serenity, author:sdkshelly, author:alisanne, author:gatewaygirl, author:dysonrules, author:mab, author:melusinahp, author:femmequixotic

I feel special. :D

H/D 5EVER

ETA: You got me curious because I knew that wasn't my first fic - good Lord, I've been writing H/D and, with one exception, nothing but H/D since January 2003 when I put my first fic on LJ.

Oh interesting!

I was going to title the middle column "Earliest fic" but I soon realized that I couldn't possibly know for sure which fic was an author's earliest, as I haven't scoured every archive and blog. So I just called it "Early fic example" since all I needed was one example of a fic published before DH to make my point :)

But if you can find me a link to your earliest fic, I'd be happy to edit the chart!

And you are special ♥

LOL I'll pass - that fic embarrasses me now. Inevitable was the first fic I was truly proud of, so I'm good with that being your point of reference on the chart.

2) it's all kinds of lovely to see so many people not only loving H/D for so long, but also continuing to give us wonderful stories to enjoy

You're very welcome!

And you're another author who I had to go back and double-check my data on. The earliest fic I know for you is "Summer of the Dragonfly" which was published May 2008. I was worried I missed something earlier and should have included you in the chart.

Let me know if I made any mistakes!

No, your data is perfectly correct. I came to H/D only after DH had been published. I was in LotR before, since 2003 but not as an active writer. :)

I thought abotu leo_draconis, but the earliest fic I can find for her was 2008...

There's also naadi, who was writing fic as early as 2002 I believe? and creating stories through art up to last year (although I believe she's announced she's no longer going to create for fandom?) So I'm not sure how she fits in this due to the fact that she's an artist and may have officially left fandom as of 2015...

I'm guessing that artists would qualify for a separate list :)

Oh, these are good suggestions!

I found the same results for leo_draconis. The first fic of hers I can find is "The Gazebo" which dates to Oct 2008.

And yeah, the most recent fic I know of for Naadi is "The Everblooming Rose" (which is really a graphic novel, but I'll count it) and that was published in Dec 2013. It's a pity she's not writing anymore, because I really love her stuff.

A lot of the lines I'm drawing are totally arbitrary - why July 2007 as the publish-before date and why May 2014 as the publish-after date? Mostly just because I needed to draw lines *somewhere* and those made some sense to me as reasonable dates. (Using the publication of DH seemed like a good reference point for defining "veteran" and allowing at least a year before today's date because fic writing takes time).

And artists are a whole 'nother wrinkle to consider. Mostly, I just don't have the data at my fingertips for that!

Awesome list, and I may just have found some new reading material (or at least gotten reminders for some early favorites that fell by the wayside under the sheer mass of Drarry goodness and deserve a revisit).

Yay stats!

I'm so glad I could point you to new (that is, new-to-you) fics!

No kidding about the sheer mass of Drarry goodness! There are SO MANY fics on my "to read" list and so many more still coming out that I think I may never read all that I planned to.

But this is a good problem to have :)

Actually, I suspect that I may have read most of them as a lot of the authors you listed are among my favorites/must-reads, but I definitely don't think I've read all of their fics, so I'm looking forward to going through the list. ;-)

As for "to read" stuff, let me just say that I'm on my third Kindle ... and let's not get me started on my bookmarks and Diigo "read later" items, 'kay? *grins*
