89. Aya by Marguerite Abouet and Clément Oubrerie. A coming-of-age graphic novel set in the Ivory Coast during the late 1970s, this is really engaging, funny stuff. Apparently Abouet was influenced by Marjane Satrapi, but I liked this better than I did Persepolis, which I thought was overrated. My only real quibble is that I had some trouble keeping track of the three female protagonists, but that may be my fault. Oubrerie's art is lively and expressive. There are two other graphic novels in this series (so far), but my library doesn't seem to have them; I hope I can track them down.
