Fic: Occupation

The explosion, when it happened, rocked the ground for almost a mile all around. All of New Caprica heard it.

And all of New Caprica felt the fallout.

Hey there! I saw the ad posted in the battlestar_blog community and definitely had to come check this one out. I'm very interested to see what happens in this re-imagining of season three. I've read the two entries that are up right now and I just have to ask - what lead you (in general, since I don't know who was involved in the decision) to decide to change the deaths of Cain and Billy? I hope my question isn't inappropriate and I certainly don't intend to argue against the decision at all, but I was just curious - especially since those are both events from season two (if I'm remembering correctly).

Thanks in advance!

You're right -- they do both happen in season two, and we actually had a really long argument about Cain, Billy, Felix Gaeta and Laura Roslin (in a locked community post) before we started writing. Mostly, we decided to change a few points of canon so we could set up a few plots the universe never got the chance to explore. Billy, for example, died because of a contract dispute, not because the executive producers wanted him to die, and I always thought they should have imprisoned Cain and ignored her (with the potential of bringing her back later) instead of killing her off.

Pretty much all of the rest of the changes are from where season three starts. And I hope you like the stories!

What a terrific start! You've definitely got me hooked. I'm still getting my bearings in terms of what's canon here and what isn't, but it looks like you're going in some *very* interesting directions.

Thanks! Yeah, we made a few changes, but we hope they're for the better -- or, for the entertaining, at least.

I hope you continue to read!

(PS: Sorry, I totally forgot to reply to this comment when you actually *made* it. I am for the win.)

Just wandered over here and had time to start reading.

And all I can say (in an awed voice) is THIS is going to be wonderfully interesting!

Finally found some time to start reading this, and all I can say is I love it so far. While I have no problems with season 3, an alt look at things is always welcomed in my book. You set up the introduction chapter really nicely - much better idea than to have started with one/two people. Like this (as somebody already said) I can really get the feel for what is happening on New Caprica.
Plus - Cain is alive? Big "hell yes" to that!
*happily runs off to read next part(s)*

We definitely thought dropping Cain was a missed opportunity on the part of the Powers that Be...And I'm glad you liked the style, the general introduction of each character, bit by bit. It makes it a lot easier to go on, fill in the details.

Anyhow. I'm glad you like :D
