Hi.
It sounds like a great idea.
Not really a 12 stepper myself, but I use them. And a women only group sounds great as well.

And you're so right there's a demon living in us, it'll never disappear but we can stop feeding it.
Actually the book that saved my life is called 'the dancing demon'. It's a danish biography so can't tell you to read it, but you've already seen the demon so....

There's a text I'm your disease, I'll try and find it.

thank you - there are definitely some things about the 12-step program i don't like - for example, i think it is somewhat important to figure out WHY you drink, and 12-step programs don't focus on that much - but i also think that to attend meetings and learn about the steps can't hurt me, so it's worth a shot. i think the social benefit of groups is worth it.

exactly, the only way to make the demon go away is to stop trying to fight it - instead, you just starve it. you can't fight with it, it will always win. i'll look up the book, and see if it's available in english. :)

The why can be important, but in all simplicity we drink because we're addicts. There can be things leading to it, like I have social anxiety and drinking was a great way to function, but non addicts cope with things in other ways.
Whatever it is that started it, should be dealt with when sober, your first priority will be to stop drinking and then when the world is clear again you can work the why.

But I guess it's different for everyone, I can only talk for me, I was very focused on how tough my life was and blame-shifting, they made me drink.

The book isn't translated, it's a bio by this guy who had a movie-rec programme on tv, a guy I like very much, respect and he tells how it was for him before he went into rehab and after. I said if he can do it, then I can too. :)

i can see that, and i see it more the further i get into my reading on the 12 steps. i'm only on the first, but i see that analyzing the "why" isn't enough to stop you from drinking. it's not as simple as a door you can unlock. addiction is too complete, too encompassing, and probably not something we can reverse only by knowing the cause.
