re: the future

So I've been holding off on Telling People All About This, because I've had this paranoid certainty that something could still go wrong, and technically it still can, I could be denied student loans or be run over by the pig truck tomorrow or whatever, BUT not an hour ago I got my first textbook in the mail and it's 1600 pages of cellular biology ( Read more... )

Congrats!

It’s not worth worrying about getting your life in order by a specific date. Supposedly, Julius Caesar became immensely depressed when he turned thirty because he was now older than Alexander had been when he’d conquered the known world, and still hadn’t achieved anything significant with his life. Of course, things worked out for him in the long run - well, except for the whole ‘being stabed to death by your trusted friends’ thing. Um. Hmm. Classical history really doesn’t lend itself to inspiring stories…

Anyway, good luck! :)

*snerk* No, I think I'd prefer to live an unremarkable life with less stabbing, if I have to choose.

Awesome! I wish you the best of luck with the studies. And I've gone back to Uni to change stuff about my life after 30 myself, so yeah, it's definitely not too late. You shall rock it and enjoy it and I send all the best vibes in the world for the coming years :)

Thanks! I really think this is going to work out well. I'm at once more motivated and more realistic in my expectations of my life and of myself than I was a decade ago, I can't help but feel both those things bode well for getting an education.

Great news! And well done.

Don't fret over what you're 'supposed' to have done by what age. Everyone's life is different, and you can only start from where you are, right?

Thanks! And you're exactly right. Griping and feeling bad about the past is only going to waste even more time - plus, I can't help but feel time spent on growing up is never quite wasted.
