So I've been holding off on Telling People All About This, because I've had this paranoid certainty that something could still go wrong, and technically it still can, I could be denied student loans or be run over by the pig truck tomorrow or whatever, BUT not an hour ago I got my first textbook in the mail and it's 1600 pages of cellular biology ( Read more... )

Cheers, congrats, and hoping for all the best for you!

*snerk* Thanks, Deathy! And don't worry, I wouldn't dream of consulting anyone else for my setting-on-fire needs.

/cheer!

I had just turned 32 when I went back to school to finish my undergraduate degree. I'm now 36, have a graduate degree, and am working at a decently-paying job in my chosen field.

That is super exciting! One thing about starting something later is that you know what you really want and then really apply yourself to your studies in ways that younger people often don't do because they don't have the same focus. I totally found this to be the case returning to college in my 30's.

Thanks! And yes, I see it in much the same way - plus now I have so many other advantages that I didn't have at 21. Like knowing about my disability and how to compensate for it and minimize problems, or having a lovely boyfriend who is supportive of me instead of one who resents and sabotages my efforts.

Congratulations!

As someone else who might transition into doing what they want to do by their mid-thirties (depending on how fast I can cram Japanese into my brain...), I salute you!
