I know I am a total cheese ball, but I think this video and story is amazing. Crystal just showed it to me from a post on her friends page, and I had to repost it. I love animals, and stories like this are proof that they love us too and they have souls.

It's a nice change from all the negativity out there.

I saw that a while back too. I had tears in my eyes and was giggling from the bond. Then it hit me...they say one of the biggest arguments against domesticating wild animals is their re-introduction into the wild is usually unsuccessful and ends in their death. Sure, Christian learned to hunt food for himself as instinct kicked in and his survival in that manner was secure; however, he had a VERY close relationship with humans that obviously isn't forgotten once placed in a grassland for a year. My only concern about him is that he approached villagers in the same manner and in "self-defense" he ended up being harmed. I wonder if there is info on tracking him over the years, surely they tagged him. This is a good reason why when I worked with chimpanzees we had some from the pet trade because even though they were healthy creatures (unlike the ones we cared for that were subjected to medical experiments) they had a prior parent/child bond with a human. That love ended up putting the animal's welfare at risk in the end had if been re- ( ... )

Thank you so much for finding that. This is really one the best things I have read in so long.

I used to toy with the idea of going into some kind of career in animal care, but I couldn't for these very reasons. I know that I would become too attached, or vice versa.

I have always felt a special connection with animals. I guess that's why I feel more "complete" when I have a pet in my home.

You are lucky to have had an experience with an endangered species. I dream about stuff like that!
