I was holding on to this one little glimmer of hope that out of this horrible horrible tragedy, we might at least get a real dialogue on race and poverty going on in the US. Our local fourm site down here in Binghamton has me beyond any emotion I can describe. It isn't even dealing with backlash; many are delighted to see more dead [insert deragatory word for african americans here] and see it as an act of God or evolution. It should be reported as a hate site and ripped from the internet. KKK members cannot give speeches with their hoods on, but people are allowed to anonymously post pure hate speech. The moderator has apparently grown tired of deleting posts and many still stand. Whenever someone posts something intelligent the idiots start saying something terrible.

I wouldn't view it if you want to keep your sanity, but this is what I'm talking about. Hopefully everything will be deleted soon, though they just keep coming with it...

Amen, Amber. My political communication professor said that if the same crisis happened in Coral Gables (where UM is), a city of white, affluent people, everyone would have rushed to get everyone out and safe. And it's a good point. We're killing our own people in Iraq and in New Orleans. At least with New Orleans, there's an extremely clear solution.
