Deaf actresses -- thoughts after watching CSI: New York 3.12 Silent Night

I love Marlee Matlin; I have ever since I first saw her in Reasonable Doubts, with the also wonderful Mark Harmon. Her work in The West Wing made me love it more: Joey Lucas was a strong, interesting character and the way she worked with the regulars was beautiful. However, I did reflect at the time, that she was the only deaf actress I knew of. ( Read more... )

I know of no deaf actors or actresses aside from Marlee Matlin -oh, and perhaps the guy who played the deaf brother in Four Weddings & a Funeral, if he's actually deaf.

I didn't even know Matlin was in CSI:NY - that's almost enough to make me want to watch the episode. I loved her on The West Wing, and like you said, she played well off the regular cast. *sigh* I miss that show.

(Also: Mark Harmon! *loves*)

I've wanted to learn sign language for years, but I have the same problem as you so. And, also, I don't know any deaf people, so it would be rather pointless. ;)

Lindsay has some sort of problem with a crime scene, and splits, which prompts Stella to offer her a friendly ear. When this offer is rejected, she switches to boss-mode. Great interaction between them, and no moony-eyed Danny in sight! *cheers* I think he makes some passing comment about Lindsay, the way any co-worker would but nothing more.

Mark Harmon is his own kind of wonderful. I thought it was sort of funny (and lovely!) that both he and Matlin turned up in The West Wing. That was a great show, and I miss it, too! Speaking of *guilty confession* I haven't actually seen the last season of it. For some reason, it has yet to turn up on terrestrial television over here, and I ( ... )
