Safe Sex (in MY porn!?)

Because Twitter was not the ideal environment for this sort of discussion topic...

Safe Sex & Porn

Readers, what is YOUR take on the topic of safe-sex practices in porn? (Fic porn, filmed porn, whatever.) Does it turn you on/off? What about a distinct LACK of safe-sex practices in your porn? Do you sit there thinking, No condom?? >:( or UNF. I ( Read more... )

I tend not to care one way or the other, because it's author's choice and dramatic license ( ... )

I have a really massive domesticity/monogamy kink (can I call that a kink? Is this the time to employ the phrase 'emotional kink'?) so the trust implicit (or explicit, depending in the fic) in barebacking in a committed relationship.

That said, it isn't a deal-maker or breaker most of the time, except, for some reason, with fic where the characters are young. Idk why, but the combination of jailbait and unprotected sex makes me more nervous than I really want to be while reading porn.

Most of the time, it doesn't really register for me, though. I'm not reading porn for the reallism or anything.

Things I have learned in fandom: you can call ANYTHING a kind because it probably is one.

...that's a pretty perfect truism. Also, I just reallized I never finished that first sentence, just stuck a period on and moved on. Apologies. Sentence should read, "... barebacking in a committed relationship is a huge turn-on."

Got the gist of that anyway! I apparently can't spell kink so you know, we all have typing impairments sometimes!

I like both actually, but honestly the only thing that bothers me enough to stop reading is when people are using protection incorrectly. Latex condoms with oil based lubes? Instant turn off. The same thing goes for what someone mentioned earlier in the thread, which is when characters throw out this line about not needing condoms because they haven't been with anyone else in a while. Lame.

I think a lot of it depends on the characters, for me. I once read an Inception fic where Arthur makes both himself and Eames get tested before they bareback, but it worked for me because it was exactly the kind of practicality that makes sense for the character. I know you're talking about PWP, but the best PWP is secretly a character study. A really hot character study ( ... )

My tolerance for sexytiemz in fic comes and goes (ha! I am so lame) rather like seasonal depression cycles in and out, but the safety thing depends on two factors 1) relationship and 2) relevance ( ... )
