Safe Sex (in MY porn!?)

Because Twitter was not the ideal environment for this sort of discussion topic...

Safe Sex & Porn

Readers, what is YOUR take on the topic of safe-sex practices in porn? (Fic porn, filmed porn, whatever.) Does it turn you on/off? What about a distinct LACK of safe-sex practices in your porn? Do you sit there thinking, No condom?? >:( or UNF. I ( Read more... )

Beyond 'mmm, barebacking', I'm really kind of blase when it comes to safe-sex in porn. RL is of course an entirely different matter, as, possibly weirdly, is writing porn; when I'm writing it I actually tend to think this stuff through, but for the most part, unless there's a deliberate reason for it, I just handwave safe sex habits and assume that they're all in place (since I really only read/write slash; het porn would be a different matter).

IDK, I'm not very practical or, indeed, intellectual about the whole thing. *embarrassed* If the fic is a one-night-stand type deal, I might raise an eyebrow if there's no condom mentioned, but I'll probably just go with it. ¬_¬

I realise this comment adds exactly nothing to the general discussion. ^_^ I just never really realised how little I actually consider stuff like this in the porn I read, and often in the porn I write. Something to think about next time I write anything like that!

~chinhands~ I don't actually care? I mean. It doesn't pull me out of a fic, it doesn't make me D: face or anything. I rarely *notice*...

EXCEPT.

Anal sex should always involve a condom. Period. I don't care if you're clean of STDs, I don't care if you've been together 40 years. It's not about that, it's about the other bacteria and such that's present in the colon that can cause problems when introduced to the body through penetrative anal sex.

I do get frustrated with the random "hey, i don't have a condom." "that's okay, I'm clean." exchanges. THAT'S NICE, WHAT IF THE OTHER PERSON ISN'T? but then again, that's why i'm reading fic/watching porn. because it's not real.

So is that a real-life compartmentalized thing, or does it throw you out of fic!porn if a couple is having anal sex without the condom? Like, is it a deal-breaker for the fic, or just something you feel strongly about IRL but can deal with in fic? *curious*

It doesn't make me backclick automatically, if that's what you mean. i can generally ignore it in fic, under the heading of, "ITS A FICTIONAL WORLD, NO DISEASES!!"

but no, its generally a RL thing, though i notice it in fic

I have one thing that I hate!!!!! The one where one character is all "Damnit we have no condoms! I guess I just have you give you oral" and the other character is perfectly okay with the fact that sexually transmitted disease is now no longer transmitted by fluid, only by cock.

I don't think I mind either way, if the author mentions it or not, but if condoms are mentioned, make it hot. (moment of fumbling "what are you doing?" "effing trying to get this on with one hand" "oh please let me give you a hand" more fumbling) only more so than that (sorry lame) :-)

I've never read a fic that dealt with it in a way that bothered me (either too much emphasis on protection or too little). The only thing that annoys me is when people make too much of a big deal about it outside of the fics. I find it very annoying when people get on their high horse about it, particularly if they make it into a racial/cultural thing (like people who complain that women who write yaoi manga or doujin in Japan don't portray condom use out of ignorance or something when they've never actually had a conversation with a single person in Japan about this subject). Unless someone says why they are/aren't portraying the use of condoms (or anything else), then you don't have real grounds for making assumptions about it ( ... )
