Seriously Pissed!

Saying I'm furious is an understatement. I think I reached furious after the first website I found with my story posted without my permission. I went beyond it after the second and third and really hit the roof when I found a site that had my story posted in a whole other language ( Read more... )

I really hope so as well!! I really hope I can resolve this without too much incident and I hope this person learns in the long run that you don't do this crap to people.

Thank you for your support, sweetie *hugs*

Let me just note (and this is in no way meant to say it's okay) that Russians have a completely different take on intellectual property rights, or whatever you want to call it, than we do. They basically have no concept of intellectual rights to art. Artistic works are seen as belonging to everyone. It's likely whoever translated your work had no idea that the act would cause offense. You of course have the right to demand it be taken down (however the hell you can manage to make that clear), in accordance with the fact that other countries do have this concept.

That is exactly why I am so furious. It's a whole other language which means that a lot of the words won't match. In short, they would need to have written my entire story over again so that it could be made sense of... they did this without talking to me or asking me if it's all right.

Yes, I understand. What I'm saying is that they didn't think to ask because they don't understand the offense in it since they have an entirely different way of looking at things.

You are NOT overreacting and you have every right to be upset. I mean, it's good that they credited you properly and all, but they still should have asked your permission first, ESPECIALLY since translating into other languages is part art/part science and involves as much interpretation as translation... you have no idea if the Russian-language version remains true to your vision and story.

*hugs* I'm sorry that happened to you, sweetheart!

I don't think you're overreacting at all. They clearly know where to find you and it takes all of a few minutes to ask if they can translate your stories into another language. It is rude that they think they can do what they like.

No you're not going overboard.

It's just common courtesy to ask. It's a mannerism that expands any culture and age. Plus, it's common sense.

Would I go into your house and use your restroom without asking? Uh, no. I wouldn't.

Therefore, you're completely within your rights to be angry. I'd be pretty pissed off too.

*sighs* It's sad that you have to blatantly spell it out for people that they have to ask for your permission, but hopefully this will get the point across.

Hang in there luv.
