#1) I love the smell of bleach because it reminds me of home. Florida smells like pools. :-) #2) My mom used to punish my brother and I by making us clean the grout in between the tiles on our floor, with bleach and a toothbrush. I secretly loved it. #3) I haven't seen you in forever. We should hang out.
We should hang out. However, I'm pretty much postponing life until after taking the GRE on 9/16. Are you coming to the night game against Holy Cross on the 19th?
How would you recommend cleaning a hummingbird feeder? This spends most of its time full of a 1:4 (volume) solution of sugar water, which the bacteria looove, so it needs to be disinfected every time it's refilled; but bleach or detergents seem like a Really Bad Idea, because hummingbirds are fragile things. I've been using boiling water, 5% white vinegar, and hope.
I'd do 10% bleach for 30 minutes, and then rinse really well. Perhaps rinse, then soak in water. It shouldn't smell like bleach when you're done. Boiling also probably works, but you're running the risk of exposing your food preparation pots to those bacteria, plus any diseases the hummingbirds might be carrying.
Also, if you're using tap water, the hummingbirds are getting some amount of chlorine, anyway.
