to me, comic-book Gotham is New York (and Bludhaven is somewhere in New Jersey), but Nolan's Batman is really Chicago. I think Heath Ledger took parts of accents he heard in the city and incorporated it into his Joker performance.
Gotham has always felt NYC to me, actually, from my own comparisons of upper Midwest and Californian cities and then occasional visits to my aunt in NYC. It's the grungier, older parts of NYC in a perpetual fifteen-years-ago timeloop; no matter what year it is, Gotham is fifteen years ago, if that makes sense.
I really liked it. I especially liked the characterization of Gordon. Ben what's-his-name did a good job of straddling the line between goody and world weary. The Penguin and Fish were both excellent. I did, however, think they tried to hard to shove ALL THE VILLAINS OMG into one episode. It's like, slow down. We got all season, son.
Very true! I liked those characters a lot. And I do like the villains (I see what they're trying to do!) but yes it felt more like a promo for "please keep watching our show. please. pwetty pwease." rather than organic storytelling. ;) But it was fun!
Yeah, Renee Montoya, Crispus Allen, and even Harvey Bullock were all too old, compared to the comics, and compared to Gordon (who's the old-man commissioner by the time Batman runs around). I guess I can forgive that in the interests of giving Gordon something of a cast to bounce off of... I'm more bothered by the fact that they made Poison Ivy's real name Ivy. Her name's supposed to be Pamela Isley.
However, points for actually keeping Montoya a lesbian like she is in canon.
Yes, that's true! It does round out the cast, and I suppose it's better than creating all new characters.
Hmm, good point. That was a little too obvious!
Yes, true. That's fun!
What did you think of the second episode? It didn't wow me as much as the first. Now that the scene's been set, it seemed rather formulaic police procedural, albeit with a shiny cast, over-the-top villains, and an otherwordly setting.
I've heard it's supposed to be an expy of Chicago.
I have yet to watch 'Gotham', but I have it recorded to watch. I've had family in town this past week, so I have a lot of TV to catch up with in addition to doing school work. Quite the juggling act, for me at least.
And I do like the fact there is an allusion to (the future) Batgirl! Yay!!
Heee!! There was a $0.99 sale on all Batgirl titles recently on comiXology, but I didn't have the extra scratch for it. Hopefully, it'll be around for awhile so I can take advantage of it sometime. Sideshow Collectables has a kick ass statue also, but I definitely don't have the money for that!!
I have a long list of stuff on my DVR that is waiting to be watched and hopefully, I can get around to actually doing it soon. Woe.
Not bad. My cataloguing class will be the death of me, but I just try to do it one day at a time. I did two weeks work of assignments in three days before my dad and step-mom came to visit. I should get a medal for that!!

Still not sure of the show all in all though.

Did you see Gotham yet? What did you think?
Ooh, how is school going? That's a lot to juggle! I hope you are mastering the act or at least pretending like you are. ;)
