You're thinking too binary

Something I often notice in society is how almost everything is divided in terms of two options. You're either for or against the plan, you think something is good or it isn't. It's the sort of thinking trap which is very easy to fall into because it seems like taking the simplest option ( Read more... )

You could be right, I can't see many expletives on the bad list, which I would have expected and might even things up a little.

As for the rest of the post, I'm pretty sure you don't need to follow it given you go far beyond the idea of a third option and into the realm of the infinity of values between true and false, or 0 and 1.

Part of reason people are offered binary choices is that the human brain seems far less capable of making rational decisions when the number of options increases. Even when we do, we compare each pair of options to make a decision. There is some interesting stuff written about it in this book.
