*shrug* I think everybody has these moments, the "where'd I go wrong, maybe it was X or Y or Z" or "Hmm, if I look up and get on my tippy toes, I might get a peek at happiness beyond that wall of sheer fucking misery I call my current situation" Lord knows what little brain power work takes, so I find myself doing it a fair amount. Nothing is totally given to you, but there is a sort of karma, so just do what comes natural, what feels right, and you'll eventually carve out that little niche that lets you weather the varied and many storms of life.
Because life is brief and many are the pains which, living and struggling, everyone sustains, let us follow our desires, passing and consuming the years, because whoever deprives himself of pleasure, to live with anguish and with worries, doesnt know the tricks of the world, or by what ills and by what strange happenings all mortals are almost overwhelmed. --Machiavelli

We've all wasted years of our lives with the wrong partners -- YOU
Keep your head up. You never know what adventure will come up, or what person is just around the corner. For all you know the perfect guy is just under your nose and you haven't even noticed yet. Or maybe he's in another country. Eventually the right people end up with each other. Sometimes it takes time and a few mistakes, but I firmly believe it happens. Look at my parents-- miserable together and co-dependant. But now my dad appears content for the first time in my life. Life is tricky, but if it was easy it wouldn't be worth living.
The most important thing is to find happiness within. Then when the time is right the right one will come along. Trust me. Also don't look to others around you to where your life should be. We're all different right, so why would we all be in the same place in our lives.
