How do I get up on its back?

[Because that suddenly seems like an awfully long distance.]

[oh right, he's pretty tall, haha. chuckling as he puts the reins back over the horse's head.]

Here.

[takes her hand and places it at the front of the saddle along with the reins.] Hold on here, and then place the other on the back of the saddle.

I'll give you a boost. Just step onto my heads with your left foot, and swing your right leg over. I'll adjust the stirrups after that.

This is totally a big brother kind of relationship, don't fight it! rainbowpalette June 18 2011, 15:55:00 UTC
[Kanaya isn't sure about this, especially since she's wearing a skirt. However, she follows his instructions, and with some flopping gracelessly and flailing around, she manages to get on the hoofbeast's back.]

I'm so high off the ground!

[This is kind of exhilarating, and it's not even moving yet!]

Hold on!

[and they start walking at a nice, leisurely pace.]

[Kanaya's skirt is wide enough that she can get one leg on either side of the horse and still be decent.

The rocking, swaying motion takes some getting used to, but this is pretty fun, really.]

Thank you, Ace.

No problem. Do you have horses in your world?

Yes, but in the plains, not where I grew up. And we called them "hoofbeasts," not horses.

Hoofbeasts? [laughs.] That's a strange name. Makes me wonder what you call other animals.

Well...

[Pointing at some birds flying overhead.]

Those are winged flight creatures. And we call squirrels "nut creatures."

[chuckles.]

Nut creatures? Really? And those "winged flight creatures" are birds.

[very amused.]

Though not really complicated, those are certainly longer names.

Maybe, but they're more descriptive, aren't they? You definitely know what the other person is talking about!

knightofchanges June 20 2011, 03:57:31 UTC
I suppose. But couldn't "winged flight creature" also mean a bat? Or a "hoofbeast" a cow?

[Giggling. Ace, you so silly.]

Of course not, that would be a "winged nightflight creature" and a "milk hoofbeast."

[Same name there.]
