So you call a horse a "hoofbeast", a cow a "milk hoofbeast", but a goat a goat? [laughs.] Why not "horned hoofbeast" or something?

Because that would just be silly, Ace. That's why.

[Laughing too.]

[still chuckling.]

Well if you ask me, the other names are silly.

[Gently teasing.]

And I think yours are tremendously non-specific.

[teasing back!]

How are they non-specific? A bird is a bird. Of course there are different types, but I would think just saying "hoofbeast" would be more confusing and non-specific.

Actually, now that you mention it, there is certainly a greater variety of animals and birds here than back home. Maybe your names are more specific because they have to be.

Yes. There were really only a few different creatures around my home in Alternia, so I didn't need many different names to tell them apart. That said, I also lived in a desert, so perhaps it was different in the forests or on the plains.

Hmmm, that is a good point.

What kind of creatures did you have in the desert?

Well...

[Listing them on her fingers.]

Legless scalebeasts, winged flight creatures with big, black wings, stinging tailbeasts, and toads.

[he's just going to look up at her at that.]

Again with the vague names, until you came to toads. That's actually pretty funny. [laughs.]

Hmmmm. Stinging tailbeasts...I wonder if those are like scorpions. I keep imagining bats for the flight creatures, and I'm assuming legless scalebeasts might be snakes.
