[Lara was coming back from finding out the new ruins in the desert. She remembered vaguely reading about them in the newspaper while this world had turned into the 1920s and had wondered if they were real or not. They were, apparently. Since she had only been equipped with her notebook, the tomb raider could only take notes and pictures with her Dreamberry, but was now determined to get the right equipment and go back to explore the ruins further. Perhaps they held the key to secrets of this world.

That's how she finds herself in Espoir, shouts gaining her attention. Oh right, it's the beginning of the month. New arrivals are about to happen. Following the voice (is that man really talking to himself out loud?) Lara arrives just in time to see him punch the tree. His cursing makes her smirk lightly.]

That poor tree. Did it do something to you to deserve such violence?

[It's clear from the way she speaks that she's completely amused by this.]

[Startled to hear another voice he quickly turns to see who it is and...stops. Mouth just hanging open like he was going to say something. Well he certainly could dream up quite a looker if he wanted to.

Right. Right. Dream. Not real. Though, little did he know, his scars and bruises were real. And evident now that he was facing her. He shakes his head and smirks before gesturing towards the tree. Like that alone was self-explanatory.]

Just waking myself up, lady.

[And without wasting another second he turns his attention back to said tree and chuckles at himself; mumbling under his breath.]

Ah, great. Now it's like I'm talking to myself.

[He'll just disregard that he was doing that earlier.]

[Lara raises an eyebrow as the man turns around to face her. Well, you're not too bad yourself, rugged handsome man. Somewhere under the blood and grim, that is. Her smirk widens slightly as she takes a few step closer to him]

That will certainly not do it.

[Oh how much fun it is to tease the new people coming to this place. She chuckles lightly as he speaks to the tree again]

You've done that already. But I can assure you that I am quite real. You can....make sure of that yourself if you want...

[She's of course teasing again. Try something...unsavory and you'll know she's real through the pain of her punch.]

Well I'm open to suggestions. You know, instead of just standing there and watching me.

[But in the meantime he is just going to go back to gently nursing his hand. He winces upon touching it, realizing that he likely broke something. Though how that is possible in a dream is...the confusing part.

...Ah. Great. Now the hot woman was laughing at him. This was turning out to be a shitty dream.]

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume you punching me in the face isn't going to make a difference either. Besides, does it look like I need anymore bruises or broken bones?

[So there you go. And, anyway, if this is a dream he can just...imagine your clothes away. Or something. Crap, why wasn't that working?]

Believe me, if there was a way out of this place, I would not be speaking to you right now.

[Such a whiny man you are. Lara shifts her backpack around and shuffles through it, looking for the small first aid kit she always bring with her. Getting shot at or encountering monsters makes you be prepared at all time. It doesn't help that this world seems to fancy monsters and nightmares at times too.

She offers her hand for his injured one] Here, let me see.

[Choosing to ignore the man's sarcasm, because everyone was entitled to be pissed off when they first wake up here, she starts cleaning the scratches on his hand. She can't do anything about the broken bones, but she can at least wrap it properly]

You're in Somarium now. You were almost right in saying that you're dreaming. This is a dreamworld, but there's no way out. At least none that has been found.

[Give her some credit. She's not that easy. You'll have to sweet talk her a bit before she starts shedding clothes]

[He had hesitantly given her his hand, wincing when she touched it, especially when the liquid bubbled over his cuts. But overall his hand felt less like it was on fire at least. Always a plus.

And like a lion having a thorn removed from his paw, Drake relaxed a little.]

You, ah, always come prepared to find angry guys slamming their fists into trees?

[There was a sheepish grin on his face momentarily before it quickly disappeared. He was trying to absorb what she was telling him. Trying.]

All right, just...humour me for a second. Say I believe you and I'm in some magical dreamworld that I can't leave; would other people I was with have been brought here?

[He doesn't believe any of it for a second, but it was better than feeling like he was slamming his head against a brick wall.]

[This time her smirk is less sarcastic and more friendly]

Of course. Those are an occurrence happening more often than you may think.

[The disappearance of his sheepish smile, nor his disbelief are not surprising to Lara.]

They could have been brought with you at the same time. Or they could have been here for a long time while you could have sworn to having been with them moments before you woke up here. It is mostly random, I'm sorry to say. Oh, and don't be surprise if you meet up with someone you thought long dead, as well.

[He pulls his hand back to take a look at it. It's still a bit swollen looking, but not nearly as bad since the cuts had been cleaned. He raises his hand a bit as if to thank her and nods.]

Comforting to know I'm not in the minority. Though you sound pretty busy if that's the case. [Slight smile.] Almost feel kinda bad keeping you here when there could be other trees getting assaulted.

[Teasing. Playful teasing. And something to keep him going despite, well, whatever the hell was going on. Listening to what she had to say, which he was still going along with for the sake of sanity, he was about to raise a question when she got to that last part. Then he could only focus on one thing.]

What, you mean like...zombies?

[She smiles as she shrugs lightly]

Oh, I am sure that there are many other residents that can take care of the men-punching trees while I help you adjust to this place.

[Lara shakes her head as she replaces the first aid kit in her backpack]

Oh no. The ones I've met were quite human, quite well and quite alive. [Here, there's a knowing smile.] There are monsters invading this world from time to time, but I meant that you may come across people from other time than your own.

[She gives Nathan a long look over. The clothes, the gun, the way of speaking all hint that the man comes from a world extremely similar to her own, if not the same. Well, time to see if her theory is true]

I once met someone from the Third Crusade era. I know there were some that came from even earlier in time, or just a bit later, like the Renaissance. I've heard of others knowing they died in their world being brought here as well.

[A smile tugs at the corner of his mouth. He lucked out, for once, a beautiful young lady helping him to adjust? He really could stand to be less of an ass.

But, you know, dead people just walking around? That doesn't settle too well with him and, again, he takes it quite literally.]

Ah, well, where I'm from things that are dead normally stay dead and if they aren't, they're zombies.

[Then there is a short pause. His brow furrows. So they don't come all rotted and the like, they were alive just...long dead according to history?]

Oh, oh...wait. [Chuckles, ah, wow.] You actually mean a whole other time period. So you're saying I could... [Looks around and points to the nearest house.] knock on that door there and Leonardo da Vinci could be inside. Just chilling out, having a cup of coffee while reading the morning paper?

[Because for Drake he is not ready to hear about people from alien planets and other worlds. Nope. He is just going to assume you're an earthly being.]

[He's assuming correctly and Lara is not about to tell him that he might encounter magical beings and talking animals here. No, it would take all the fun of seeing his reaction to it, if she ever gets the chance to see it.

She laughs softly as she nods]

Yes, exactly. Though Leonardo had his workshop in the city when he was here. [Guess what? You actually managed to name the one Renaissance person Lara met here] I have to say that he was not exactly what I thought him to be, but he was very entertaining to have around.

[Despite what he says next and the somewhat serious tone it has he is smiling and, really, trying not to laugh.]

Okay, now you're just screwing with me. I was kidding. You know, joking! Because if I agree to any of this then I know I'm losing the little bit of sanity I have left.

[He was literally just whisked out of Shambhala, maybe that's why he was entertaining this a little longer than he would have been comfortable with.

But if this is a dream, if he still believes this is truly a dream, then all he has to do is play along and wake up. Simple.

If this is a dream.]

All this crazy talk and I don't think you've told me your name yet. [Here. Have a smirk.]

I AM SO SORRY FOR THE SLOWLINESS ;_; nvrtheeasyway May 14 2011, 22:02:13 UTC
[Lara chuckles again, giving a long over look at the rugged stranger. He is making this way too easy...Her tone is teasing, seeing all to well how he seems to try to stay serious.]

Oh, don't worry, you'll know when I'll be screwing with you...[oh the innuendos...gotta love them, no?] So, no I am clearly not. But don't worry, no one has gone insane from living in this dreamworld. Yet.

[Do you really want to wake when faced with such a beautiful woman talking to you, Nate? A eyebrow raises slightly at his way to ask her name and she offers her hand to shake. Smooth, very smooth.]

Lara. Lara Croft. It's a pleasure to welcome you to Somarium.

[And that, Ms. Croft, earns you this dorky little smirk that he can't stop from forming on his face. If he was reading this right he would assume she is being... flirty. Drake allows the playfulness and decides to indulge in it himself.]

Well, that sounds vaguely like an invitation. I look forward to learning the difference. Assuming, of course, that I'm still sane.

[Of course he would not want to wake up from such a lovely image in his dream. At least not before-- well. Obviously.

And he prides himself on being smooth... whenever that works out for him. He takes her hand and gently shakes it, maybe lingering a bit longer than was customary.]

Pleasure to meet you Lara. The name's Nathan Drake, but you can just call me Nate.

[She is being flirty, though don't feel that special. Lara is in for the challenge or the usefulness someone can have to her. And judging by your nice shape and those guns strapped to your back and side, you're her exact kind of friend with benefits she keeps around. And no, not those benefits. At least, not for the moment...But a few of those dorky smile and you might be well on your way there.]

Only vaguely? [She pouts playfully. She is really trying here! Lara shakes her light] Don't worry, Nate, you are still very much sane. This place is as real as it gets, I can assure you. It's like a waking dream, and even when you fall asleep here, you do not wake up back home. And speaking of sleep, I should probably warn you about the peeping nature of this place. You came in with a phone, did you?

we can be the rulers of backtagging \o/ assworthsaving May 14 2011, 23:22:19 UTC
[Nathan Drake is fully capable of dorky-smiling and charming his way into any woman's pants. It's part of his charm. Because, really, who can resist a dork? In fact there are laws against resisting dorks.

That aside, he's not only protective, but pretty damned resourceful. He flirts with danger too.]

Could always try again. No harm in that. [That pout could melt a heart and is a lethal weapon.] So, there aren't any 'Get Out of Dreamworld' cards rewarded for good behaviour?

[He was about to carry on when she mentions that word.]

Peeping?

[And now he looks down at his pockets.]

Huh. Now that you mention it, pants did feel a bit tight. [Drake slips his good hand down his pocket and pulls out the phone, flashing it at her with a raised eyebrow and another dorky smile.] There an app to send me home?
