Halloween Event Details

Oct 25, 2009 00:08

All right guys, time for the official and final details regarding the event that's going on this week: Sunday, October 25 through Sunday, November 1. Remember, one RL week = one game day. So this whole week will be like one day for everyone in the game.

❖ where: the floating castle
Your characters will wake up in the grand hall of the floating castle. It's pretty large, but feel free to have your characters wake up on one another if you want.

From that point on, your characters are free to either explore the floating castle or leave via pumpkin carriages pulled by the pegasus. The only place you cannot enter is the very top room. That is the Overlord's chambers, and anyone who tries to get past it will suddenly find themselves wet and sitting one of the many large fountains that litter the grounds.

There are also random, yet cliché traps around the castle. There are no monsters, but the suits of armor can move and act as guards for certain, unspecified rooms. They aren't too hard to defeat. They're kind of like turtles: knock them down and they can't get back up. Trap doors, secret hallways, etc. can be found, but they all lead to a kitchen.

For reference, there are libraries, offices, kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and many many hallways and other rooms that you can explore.

Edit: Forgot to mention, later in the week, most likely around Tuesday, your characters will suddenly find themselves in a costume of whatever you want to choose. If you have no idea, you are free to choose from one of the following options: bedsheet ghost, toilet paper wrapped mummy, or a walking pumpkin.

We will have a post signaling the event, though if you are already in a thread, the change can happen in those threads if you so desire. They will not be able to remove the costume until the end of the event.

❖ omfg a dead...body?
We mentioned earlier that this was a murder mystery. So who was the victim, you ask?

It was one of the ghost NPCs: Precious.

Her body will be found lying dead on the floor, her rabbit just kind of sitting there, and the other ghosts surrounding her (or running around in a panic) and the Overlord will be absent. Where she went is anyone's guess. It's a grisly sight, and the details of her wounds and manner of death will be given in the signal post that will signal the start of the event.

But how could a ghost die? They're already dead aren't they? These ghosts might not be what everyone thought they were.

One of the ghost NPC's will alert everyone to look at their Dreamberry, where further instructions will be given. This will be the mission post. Characters can then respond to it to let the ghosts (and us) know they are accepting the task.

❖ the mission
There will be 5 "clues" that are found scattered around the castle, and it's up to the characters to find it and figure out who killed the ghost. And how. They are independent of each other, meaning you do not have to find one clue to find the other ones. This allows for a lot of flexibility in terms of threading.

To make things easier for everyone, we the mods will tag any logs that are focused on the investigation at a random time. If possible, we'd like it if we could do one clue per group, but if there aren't enough, we'll drop another one at random. Therefore there can only be five separate "group" logs.

You can go ahead and pre-plan who all you want in your group just to make threading easier. It's also quite possible for people to run into each other, so keep in mind that someone might want to join in later.

After a clue is found, the mission post will be updated to reflect the changes and will have the information written on there for reference. We also encourage for someone from the group to broadcast the information so that everyone else involved can know.

❖ i just want to run around
That's perfectly cool! We know some players may just want to have their characters explore the place to find their own information regarding anything they can find about the world. Those who are looking into the mystery will probably be doing that as well in the process.

As mentioned before, all rooms are accessible, and you can go outside. Just don't fall off the edge.

All books and documents will be available to read but they cannot be taken out. Maybe that camera feature on the Dreamberry could come in handy...

❖ wtf i can't read this crap!
The language of any documents will be initially unreadable. In fact it will look like this:

The Dreamberries will not be able to translate it at first. However, once people find the clues, information that is related to the clue will be completely legible due to the translator. For example, if the clue is related to "dream energy", then any documents or books found that have any information about the dream energy will be readable, though everything else will still be in the native language until something else happens.

When a clue is found, we will make a post that is pretty much similar to when you unlock something in games. It will probably look a lot like this:

"Information about ______ unlocked!"

A general summary of what characters can learn will be included in the post and will be accessible to everyone.

❖ end of the event
If the characters cannot figure out what happened, don't worry. There will be a brief summary and some answers to those questions. Of course, we cannot reveal everything just yet. We still have a bit of a ways to go and more mysteries to solve. But this ball is definitely rolling.

All information will be added to the Documents entry, and will also be available ICly in the "Documents" folder in the Dreamberry. This includes the vague information summaries, and any specific information we might add. We will of course provide the link again at the end of the event and your characters will have IC access to them at any time.

Please use the following tags once the event starts:

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in this post! Remember, the event does not start until we make the signal post.
