Moon Cycle 43: 11/22 - 11/30

❖ MOON CYCLE 43 ❂ 11/22/10 - 11/30/10
Phase: Three-quarters full. The darkness of last month is but a distant memory at this point.

Weather: It's no longer raining leaves! But it's left behind some pretty huge piles everywhere. It's basically like swimming in leaves when you go out into the streets. It is blustery and chilly (so the leaves are getting blown around constantly!), with temperatures staying at a high in the 50s and low in the 30s, Fahrenheit. Hold on to your hats, folks, because the wind picks up to pretty strong gales during the late afternoons and early evenings.

Effects: Nothing too major this time around, but there are a few things to note. The reason why there isn't an actual "event" this month is because December is going to be, well, let's just say interesting enough to keep everyone busy the whole month.

  • Rogue Harvest. The harvest is loose! Characters will find scattered fruits and vegetables all over Somarium -- in the middle of the street, in ponds and rivers, even inside their own homes and offices. They make look harmless, but watch out. It looks like these things are out for vengeance. Some will be more aggressive, and some will be more passive and need to be provoked, but most of the fruits and vegetables will suddenly attack any unwary character. They'll even spring out from the giant blanket of leaves and jump out from trees.

But don't worry, as strange, horrifying, and de-appetizing this may be, no one can get seriously hurt. Well, stay away from the mushrooms. They'll give "food poisoning" a whole new meaning. Some may get battered and bruised, but they have no teeth or appendages. They just bounce around making strange "squeaking" sounds.

It is possible to defeat these foes! Of course you could try to eat them, but they might not taste that good, not to mention a little disturbing. Picking them up and throwing them or just smashing them in general will do the trick. Just be careful: these foods seem to be a tight knit group, so if they see one of their own fall, you can be sure the rest will target you next. You don't want them to bring out the giant pumpkins.

Sweet foods, like cookies, cakes, etc., are nice. Actually, if a character eats one, they'll have a temporary power up and will be healed from whatever damage taken by the vegetables.

Another thing to note, not all food are animated. That is to say, there is normal food available for characters to eat. ...If they can bring themselves to eat again after this, anyway.

  • Green Thumb. As if having animated, attacking food didn't make you think twice about eating a meal, there's another twist that might make it worse. Some characters may find something akin to the fabled "Midas Touch", only instead of turning things into gold, things that they touch will turn into food. Better yet, the food has the potential to come alive and join the already existing angry vegetable horde.

There are some plus sides. First, the chance of things turning into food is random. That means sometimes an object will change, and other times nothing will happen. It's all random change.

The second thing is those who have this special "gift" will have an increased chance to create their own little food army. That's right, those who have the special touch may be spared from being attacked.

The following cannot change into food:
    • People/Living Creatures: This includes the NPCs and of course the characters and animals. Basically anything that is breathing and considered "alive" will be immune. Try as you might, you won't be able to turn that jerk you hate so much into a pea pod. Sorry. Plants do not count and can be turned into food.

    • Dreamberries. The Dreamberries will be impervious to the touch, so no risk of accidentally turning it into food. However, the skin of it might change into a strange vegetable pattern.

    • Very Large Objects. This includes buildings. Sorry, the Floating Mountain can't be changed into a giant carrot. However, there is an exception. If you so desire, characters can change their own house into a shape of a food by accident. So if you want to be like Spongebob and try living in an pineapple, go for it. This only works for individual houses like the cottages. Apartments cannot be changed.
Use this power wisely! Though we highly encourage food battles. This gives a whole new meaning to "food fight".

  • Coliseum. Around Tuesday night, a very large and very noticeable structure will appear near the eastern edge of the floating mountain. If there have been any restless fighters around, they will be more than welcome to check out the new battle coliseum that's set on the floating mountain. It's chock full of random monsters native only to Somarium, special stages with random traps and effects, and -- well think Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Admission is free, and there are cash prizes for the winners!

We'll be giving a more detailed description of what all happens within the coliseum as it goes up, and if anyone has any ideas or suggestions for it, we will be more than happy to try to implement them!

It should also be noted that if anyone (or a group of anyones) want to help out and lend a hand in actually running the coliseum, just comment to the COLISEUM SUGGESTIONS thread and we'll be happy to fill you in and let you know what all is available and allowed.

Note: this mini event is completely optional, and no one is required to have been granted the "Green Thumb". However, the harvest is still loose, so keep an eye out for those suckers. It is possible for characters to manage to skate by through the event without even one encounter, so if you don't want your character to get attacked, that's perfectly cool. This event will only last until Friday, after which everything will return to normal and the harvest will stop attacking people.

Any questions or concerns should be posted in the QUESTIONS thread.
