a quick note:

about ten years ago, i used to think that dave navarro and lenny kravitz were two very talented cats. navarro peaking with his work on janes addiction's "ritual" album and lenny with his album "mama said"...but now it just looks like they both are too preoccupied with being a "rock star" and too caught up in their pin-up pretenses to give a shit ( Read more... )

you gotta point there...especially with dave...I mean look at how much the chilli peppers sucked with him...and I have to admit they are better now with there old guitarist back. not as good as back in the day but

i somewhat agree with ya...i agree that frusciante is a better fit to the peppers than navarro was, but i think that frusciante has lost a lot of the "edge" since he has been back. the heroin just fucked him up beyond repair. he is just to poppy now, whereas before, his riffs were sweaty enough to fuck to.

navarro is just to caught up in being pretty and poaturing to come up with anything original anymore.

sorry it took me while to respond, my email is whacking out on me.

That "I Want to Get Away" song of Lenny's was so clearly written with the intent of it becoming a car commercial.

i fully agree...

if you have never heard the "mama sai" album, i really really recommend it. it is so much more sincere than anything else he has done since. i was emotionally genuine (he was reeling from being dumped by lisa bonet).

the very next album (and every album since), it seemed like he was that typical ex who is trying to show you and the world (and possibly convince himself/herself) that she/he is "over" you. he becomes so pretentious and overboard with his image. it seemed like the music was written to serve his image.

too bad.

though you must get "mama said"...his finest hour.

i would agree.. i think that happens a lot this day and age.. musicians get too wrapped up in the scene and forget about the music... and when you look at the music scene today, where is the talent anymore--granted there are some wonderfully artistic people out there, it is usually the bands that are less well known or not as popular to the mainstream societial tastes... what do ya do? --check out my journal.. heh..--Suzy

hey crazy suzy!!!!

i just noticed you on here...i am going to add you as soon as i am done writing this...

i agree with you on your point. authenticity coupled with sincerety is about as common in the art/entertainment field as bigfoot.

i agree.. it is sad.. the other day i was flipping through the channels and i came across a show called "Pop Star" .. are you familiar with this? anyway, it is like a game show where young girls compete for a spot in a girl group complete with fans and a record deal. I mean, come on.. what is the world coming to???
