KRIMPVARKIE

Unsurprisingly, I like to collect the foreign words for "hedgehog" whenever I encounter a new language - whether by studying it or encountering people who speak it. So far I've collected the following:

French: herrison
Old English: igl
Irish: granneiog (pronounced: granny-og)
Latin: Erinaceus

I am always delighted when I find out the thing that Pratchett has based his surely-he-must-have-made-that-up name/word on. Like Samizdat - amazing. :)

Do you really need a reason to name a character "Shalya" other than the one's you've already given?

1) You like it.
2) It sounds cool?

Well, I felt like it had to be more thematic.

Maybe a Hedgehog Wyr archer at 7 virtues? The makeup would be hard to figure out, though. My hair's a little too long to spike, unless there's some crazy hair glue I'm unaware of.

It sounds like a good name for a 7V NPC.

It does...I'm tempted to play a hedgehog Wyr, but the makeup is a stumper.
