When did it become the fourth? I don't remember being--oh! No, I do. I'll assume there was a curse of some sort this weekend? That would explain why I spent a portion of it as a monkey ( Read more... )

A monkey? Man, they really don't like you, huh?

Actually, I enjoyed myself. It was considerably better than the time I spent as a frog the last time! At least monkeys have useful thumbs.

Have we met?

I agree. Opposable thumbs are better than whatever frogs have.

I don't think so. I'm Kate.

I'm not sure what they're called, but frogs have small suction-cups on their toes. While they're not as good as thumbs, they make it rather easy to scale walls and tables.

It's a pleasure, Kate! I'm Carl.

Carl! So there's where you've been!

Yes, and I must say that I don't miss sleeping under tables in the least!

Has anything disastrous happened?

Uh, no kidding. You missed on a really nutty weekend, Carl! I think everyone in the City got struck by a different curse.

But good news is the outbreak's over and receding.

Again? This seems to be a monthly occurrence anymore. I wonder if there's any significance in that.

Wonderful! I was working on reverse-engineering a cure, but I was a bit too slow, it seems. Regardless, it's cured and that's what matters.

Carl-san! Oh thank goodness...

I'm actually relieved you were in your lab... The curse that affected me last wasn't too... nice.

Sorry to worry anyone, really. How were you cursed? You're entirely recovered, aren't you?

Well... two curses. One day made me taste like honey, and the other... turned me into my 5-year-old self who played around in the network.

I can't even remember all the people I met. This is so embarrassing...

That's not so terrible. We all know what it's like to be cursed, and I'm sure anyone you spoke to as a five year-old will understand.

As if there was any real doubt that a cure wouldn't be found! This City is a collection of remarkable individuals. I don't believe there are any problems that wouldn't be solved in due time.

I should hope it's not like anything you've seen before! It made me think of the Black Death, really--not that I've seen anything like that in person, but I've read.

It's quite alright. I'm just glad you're okay.

Entirely, thank you. I lost track of time, it seems.

I figured you were handling something important, so I decided to give you your space.

I don't know how important it was, really, but thank you. I'll be sure to leave a note or something along those lines should I decide to embrace the life of a hermit again.
