A few nights ago I attended my first Syrian metal show, something which I'm sure very few of my non-Arab friends even realize exist. I thought taking some photos and making known the Syrian metal scene would be a good opportunity to reveal that side of the Middle East that is rarely, if ever, displayed in Western media ( Read more... )

dude those photos are great, great band photos! metal? who knew... and yeah people don't really see beyond the politics, beyond the conflicts, they don't see the culture and the life that we have led (and sometimes being in this western environment I'm afraid I forget that myself too).

Thanks for sharing, I did not "Know" there was an Arab metal scene, but it doesn't surprise me. MEtal seems to thrive in regions where secularism and religion more starkly contrast (such as Latin America, and "red states" in the US).

I also appreciate you NOT sharing images of destruction. I am more interested in the beauty of the region than reinforcement of my dislike of abrahamic religious thought mixing with politics (something that ALL sides of this conflict are guilty of, not just one).
