My husband is in the Navy. When people hear that most people think "aw, poor you, it must be hard". Why, yes, yes it is, but not because he's away from home a lot. To be honest I enjoy my alone time. This is similar to something I almost wrote about - people in my dorm my first year of college who knew not to tell black jokes but wanted to tell ALLLL the "dumb Polack" jokes around me (at least half-Polish, possibly 3/4 depending on how a particular historically disputed area of land is regarded) and my friend Magda (actually a refugee from Communist Poland). I just hope people realize it's because he spends so much time on a ship full of men. His last ship was actually an all male ship, there was 8 women but it was classified as all male. I live in a huge Navy town so stuff like this is common, but he's worse than others.
