How is it that I can be so intensly motivated to do something that I literally jump out of my seat to accomplish it for about five minutes and then, suddenly, I don't care ( Read more... )

Everyone gets like that. I've felt the exact same way with filming and applying for college and everything else. I really want to make a movie. I have so many projects and ideas that I probably won't accomplish, and it pisses me off. But sooner or later, something will just happen and you'll get an urge to write. You may be really bored, or just really wanna avoid doing something else, and you'll wanna write. So just when that spark of motivation occurs, just write as much as you can.

Watch Clerks II. That'll make you feel better.

All great writers have something to write about. While I hope the worst is over I know that you will find a way to make it work. You're a much more brilliant writer then myself and I envy you for that. You won't end up working in a supermarket job if you don't allow yourself to be stuck there. Things take time and it all is motivation. I realize I am in pretty much the same exact situation as you working for a BA in English as well, but I believe that we are what we allow ourselves to become. I do believe that we need to have confidence that things will get better. You have had great ideas in the past, but what if you wake up tomorrow and the most amazing idea that blows those others away. The best is yet to come, and I believe that. You're a brilliant writer in originality and style, and you write about things that most people care about. Just keep working for things, it'll pay off in the end.

P.S. You need to come over to my apartment, I can't believe you haven't yet, but we've all been busy so I guess I can believe it

Writing is a lot like excercising. No one wants to do it but everyone feels better about themselves after they have. All writers say how hard it is to make themself write. The only times they ever get anything done is when they unplug their phone, glue themselves to a computer chair, and swear not to eat, sleep, shower, or see the light of day until they are finished. That's why there are publishers and agents who push writers to make their deadlines. You don't have anyone to make you write except yourself, and that's really hard. Everyone can understand that. I know you can make yourself do it, because like you said, all these ideas are sitting in your head and they want to come out. I'll hire a hitman to threaten your life until you write a novel, if I have to. Just let me know.
