I'm confused. Did the explosion also affect his vocal chords and his ability to type/write (while leaving his hands functional to sign)? I'm trying to picture him and I'm having trouble.

Most people who find themselves suddenly unable to hear can't figure out how to talk without being able to hear their own voice. It takes years to fully develop the skill of speech without hearing what you're saying, and I'd bet that if no one took an interest in making you better, you wouldn't bother to learn, just like Ianto here.

This is fantastic. Brilliantly characterised, well written, beautifully descriptive. It broke my heart to "see" Ianto that way, but I can agree that Jack is spot on. That's just who--and what-- he is.

Brilliant, darling. Simply brilliant.

I have to assume that Ianto was mentally/emotionally damaged as well. Because a hearing loss wouldn't mean he couldn't work at TW (as an archivist, anyway).

But assuming that Ianto did lose his connection with the real world, I can see Jack behaving just this way. I sometimes think his motto should be: The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Yeah.. I suppose he would; it would be hard. That's true.. but Jack would probably find it too hard to have him there.
Thank you very much... ooh yes, that's good! :)
