i was really into both The Offspring and Akira when i was about 12 or so.

i still really love Akira. beautiful animation and violence from 1988.

Akira is now being remade into two live-action films, the first scheduled for a 2009 release. Leonardo DiCaprio is a producer. it takes place in New Manhattan. huh?

akira is so amazing.
i feel kind of strange about the live action remake. i mean, the idea seems kind of seducing, but i'm also afraid that it will suck... a lot. i don't know. i guess i'll see it anyways and then formulate an opinion.

i'm guessing it'll follow the original manga a lot more closely, since they're making it into two films instead of one. technology is at a point where it could be made, but you can get away with a teenager flying into space and punching a satellite until it explodes a lot more easily when it's animated than when it's real.

also, i'm unsure how to feel about the whole New Manhattan thing. Akira just seems too Japanese to take place anywhere besides Neo Tokyo.

oh, and the music. it's kind of cheesy in the original anime, but it works. it should be kept as intact as possible.
